What do you think About Turkey and turks?
I am from turkey and i want to have an idea about our image in foreign countries, cultures.Do you see a difference with other islamic countries if yes what ?
Having traveled in the region and studied history, I think Türkiye has come a long way in modernizing its society, economy, and relations with the West. The one problem with the image of Turkey is the historical treatment of Armenians. Please do tell us the Turkish side of the story.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s accomplishments in creating the modern Turkish secular state are a shining example of what people could do in all the Muslim countries if they really tried.

Bernard Plossu’s New Mexico $19.95 Bernard Plossu, born in Vietnam in 1945, is one of today’s best-known French photographers. His photos reflect locales he has visited all over the world: Senegal, Turkey, Poland, Mexico, Guatemala, and the American West. The photographs here were taken by Plossu in the late 1970s and are images of New Mexico–where the sun, the dust, the rain, the mud, the wind, the snow, the altitude (7,000 feet), and the smells forge a uniqueness. Bernard Plossu has given us a remarkable record of our own Southwest as seen through the eyes of a Frenchman. . . . The viewer knows what Plossu is saying by the immediate impact followed by slow release. There are no clichs here. His subtle images must be teased from the data he provides. It is our own Southwest but seen in a new light from another point of view. We can learn and enjoy from all three: the images, the photographer, and what they release in us. We also learn that our teacher–and all good photographers teach–is far from conventional. –from the Foreword |

Cinema and Nation $140 Ideas of national identity, nationalism and transnationalism are now a central feature of contemporary film studies, as well as primary concerns for film-makers themselves. Embracing a range of national cinemas including Scotland, Poland, France, Turkey, Indonesia, India, Germany and America, Cinema and Nation considers the ways in which film production and reception are shaped by ideas of national belonging and examines the implications of globalisation for the concept of national cinema. In the first three Parts, contributors explore sociological approaches to nationalism, challenge the established definitions of ”national cinema”, and consider the ways in which states – from the old Soviet Union to contemporary Scotland – aim to create a national culture through cinema. The final two Parts address the diverse strategies involved in the production of national cinema and consider how images of the nation are used and understood by audiences both at home and abroad. |
